Communication and Advocacy Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme is seeking a remote Communication and Advocacy Consultant to support the Tehran Convention Secretariat for a period of seven months. Reporting to the Secretariat Coordinator, the consultant will work closely with UNEP’s Europe Office Communication focal point to enhance the Convention’s visibility, stakeholder engagement and multilingual outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Refresh and maintain the Tehran Convention website, uploading new content and ensuring a harmonised Russian version.
• Create and schedule social‑media posts, visual assets and short videos for multiple platforms.
• Develop and manage an accessible information database and photo library.
• Document stakeholder interactions, produce communication materials and donor visibility items.
• Design and implement a communication campaign for Caspian Sea Day, including media outreach.
• Prepare high‑quality advocacy products such as background papers, analytical notes, meeting agendas, briefing documents and summary reports.
• Identify and compile lists of relevant stakeholders for meetings and events.
• Translate communication materials between English and Russian with consistency and accuracy.

Required profile

• Proven experience in environmental communication, advocacy or public information.
• Demonstrated ability to work remotely and deliver outputs within tight timelines.
• Strong written and verbal skills in English and Russian.
• Experience coordinating with international teams and managing stakeholder engagement.
